SEJ official statement regarding U16 Dandenong Junior Carnival

SEJ would like to thank all the players, parents and supporters who participated in the U16 Subway Dandenong Junior Carnival.

The winner of the U16 Carnival was declared as SEJ at the end of the carnival over the weekend.

AFL South East has since notified SEJ of an error in awarding our team the trophy.

On further clarification under the current scoring system, Frankston District Junior Football League (FDJFL) has won the U16 carnival based on percentage.

The current scoring system works by two points being awarded per quarter won, plus two additional points for winning of the game. A maximum of 10 points can be awarded per match to a team.

At the end of the carnival, the SEJ and FDJFL U16 sides ended the carnival on 22 points each. SEJ had won all three of their games with FDJFL winning two out of their three.

In a tiebreak situation such as this, the winner is awarded on percentage. Therefore FDJFL have won the U16 carnival for 2015.

SEJ General Manager Shaun Connell said although he is disappointed for the SEJ team in the way this issue has unfolded, SEJ accepts the position of AFL South East.

“I am extremely proud of SEJ for their performance during the carnival and winning their three games,” General Manager Connell said.

“We look forward to contributing to a review of the competition for 2016.”
