Former Beaconsfield gun Georgia Gee will line up for Carlton in the AFLW season opener against Collingwood.

Georgia hits the big time

Excitement is building for tonight’s start of year two of the hugely popular AFLW competition and for one talented local youngster the season opener could be a real game changer.

Georgia Gee – who has played a key role in Beaconsfield’s recent run of five-consecutive premierships in the South East Juniors – will make her top-flight debut for Carlton against Collingwood at Ikon Park.

The 18-year-old, who was taken with Carlton’s pick 12 in the AFLW Draft, has also progressed through the Dandenong Stingrays system and has represented Victoria at National Carnivals.

Beaconsfield Football Club President Troy Robinson has seen Georgia grow from a raw and introverted talent into a future star of the game.

“She was a shy little kid when she started at the Beaconsfield Juniors and has blossomed into an absolute superstar,” Robinson said.

“George has developed into a state representative, she’s a classy right footer, but most of all she’s a terrific kid.”

Another former Beaconsfield star, Ellie Blackburn, earned All-Australian selection in year one of the AFLW. Robinson said everyone at the club was proud of both girls’ achievements.

“Absolutely, I’ve rang both girls this week to wish them well and as a club we’re just super excited to see them both get the opportunity to showcase their talents on the big stage,” he said.

“It’s a big tick of approval for the program we have at the club but, more importantly, it’s great for the girls as well.”

The first bounce of tonight’s blockbuster takes place at 7.45pm.
